Studio report nr:7 (A day with the quireboys)
First up, Ola, Jouni and me started to record the leadvocals to Olas contribution (songwise that is) on the album. Yeah you heard me right and not just any song. Ola has written the music to what probably is the "monster" of the album, or at least the longest one.
I've written 3 different lyrics for this song and just as I stood there in front of the michrophone singing my heart out, it strucked me. Is this too much, too personal? Will people be able to listen to this without feeling awkward? Well...according to Ola I don't need to worry.
As soon as we were all gathered I said to the lads - Just go for it! and off we went for 6 hours in a row. Our voices might not blend together like the voices of Eagles but it kind of gave the effect that I was looking for. In fact on 2 of the songs, all 5 of us were singing in harmony at the same time in front of 2 michrophones, to get the "old school" kind of live feeling I love. It's going to be interresting to see if I will love it just as much when it's time for the final mixes.
I don't think I've ever been so mentally involved in a recording before. Honestly I feel sorry for my family members. I must've been terrible to be around for the last 6 months or so, since I'm constantly feeding and taking care of my babies 24/7. The truth is my head has been so occupied by all this that I haven't written a single note or riff since we started the recording but I hope that will change one day! Anyway, now that the background vocals are complete it's just the final stages of the recording left. The plan is to start mixing the album as soon as I get home from my tour with TFK. Stay tuned for more info.
