Too much Rock 'n Roll for progfan and too complex for the rocker
It's silly but prior to the release of the HFMC debut album "FuturePast" I was nervous or maybe I should say beyond nervous. In fact no matter what band I've been playing in over the years, I've always had butterflies...a restless feeling in my body about a month before the release, knowing that the journalists are listening to your baby, ready to rip it apart if they don't like it. Anyway, back to the summer of 2010. Even if I liked the album myself, I was afraid it was too much Rock`n Roll for the average or hardcore progfan and too complex for the rocker. By now I know that the vast majority of the people who gave the album a chance really liked it and I like to think it's because of the quality of the songs.
The very first review I read was in a prog related website that really gave "FuturePast" the thumbs up! The song they pointed out was "Song for July" for being such a catchy progrock tune. I mean who would have thought? In my mind that song was going to get slaughtered by every prog journalist/reviewer in the world for being too much pop! The reason I'm writing this, is that there is reviews and there IS reviews. I mean they're all equally important but to tell you the truth some are more fun to get. Like for instance this one in the classic and "classy" cool magazine Vintage Guitar. When it happened there was no link to the article but here it is, better late than never. To read words like this about your music really helps you on this bumpy road, writing, recording and releasing music. Hmmm...two records that received more or less fantastic reviews makes you wonder what the third one HFMC is up for? Good press, bad sales...bad press, good sales? Well, being the optimistic kind, I go for good press, good sales!
