Sitting here doing the "final touches" mixing the No Place Like Home live DVD together with sound engineer Petrus Königsson. Right now I'm realizing we're doing two songs from FuturePast, two songs from Powerplay, two old TFK tunes and even two new ones as well as a couple of songs from our latest album HFMC. Yep, this gig is really turning out like a showcase of my last twenty years.

To be honest we didn't do much on this project this summer but better start late than never. Talking about it, over here it's all of a sudden summer again but right now it feels good to work on the studio tan for a while.

Toys in the attic

Toys in the attic...not really but I found some fun memorabilia. Cleaning and sorting out the attic is something we should have done ages ago but we always seem to find a lame excuse, to do it later. Anyway, our daughter Malvina is moving out of the house so we could not postpone it anylonger. Here we are with boxes of different stuff and furniture that Malvina has bought and repainted. The house is frankly a mess at the moment but this messy house is a part of life and I'm perfectly cool with that.

From one thing to another, the press cuts are from my post Spellbound pre TFK band called Solid Blue.
The live pic is me at 16 years of age playing in Östervåla Folkets Park back in 1980.

In A Broken Dream”(Vo.

positive vibes

The people I spoke to while on tour, some of them I had met before, some of them I hadn't, made me aware of one thing. They wanted us to keep the positive character we have in our sound. If I'm to believe the majority of those people, that's what separates us from a lot of bands today. It's not that I don't understand what they're saying but a lot of our music is in minor (as if that matters) and lots of the lyrics are far from uplifting. Still, if that one thing is important to some and it's the impression they get of our music it's fine by me. In fact it's great!

7 new songs later and all of a sudden those small "tour chats" just popped up in my head. To you guys, I really don't know what to say except for that I've written the songs the way I always do. One thing is for sure, the world out there doesn't exactly help out making the music and lyrics positive but imho I think I've managed to keep the balance in a good and "typical" HFMC kind of way (so far).

After some time off this summer it's time to get back in the groove again. Petrus Königsson and me will soon start mixing the "No Place Like Home" Live DVD and it won't take long until me and the lads will start to work with the new material. As if that wasn't enough, Kjell Sandberg and of course HFMC will finnish off the recording of the new song within the coming weeks. Busy times ahead...me like!

New Studio

I've seen some comments and posts lately that we're in the studio recording a new album but that's not exactly true.

HFMC has been invited to record for free in a new studio in Uppsala and of course we couldn't turn down such an offer. To make a long story short, Kjell Sandberg - the owner was once in the music business. He ran his own label/studio called Soundfront who was under the wings of Roadrunner, where he recorded lots of metal bands some 20 years ago. Well after a while he changed career but now his longing to produce music got so big he built a studio that got "completed" 2 weeks ago. Anyway, he contacted HFMC manager Johnny Taxén telling him he wanted us to try it out and here we are, 5 happy guinea pigs (=försökskanin, strange translation!) helping Kjell to try out all the different michrophones, amps, well everything the studio has to offer really.

The plan with this is to use the result on the "No Place Like Home" DVD. To make it work within the concept of a Live DVD, we've promised ourselves no overdubbs. It'll be the band playing an unreleased song live in the studio. To me this will make the product both better and more interresting.

About the recording of the follow up to HFMC. We are still working on it, writing songs and rehearsing. If everything works out the way I hope we're going into the studio before this year is over. Enjoy the summer everyone - puss!//Hasse

「No Place Like Home」DVDに今回の成果を使う計画なんだ。

We Låve Rock

Sometime late saturday evening we're going to play the last chords on our HFMC tour and why not end it with a bang! Yes we're back at the barn for the second year in a row to play for our Norwegian friends at We Låve Rock in Hurum, now on saturday the 21st of May.

After our show at Reginateatern a couple of weeks back I met a Scottish gentleman that I hadn't met before. He told me he was now living in Stockholm and he got to know about HFMC through a mutual friend. He explained to me he was blown away by our performance and the quality of our songs. On top of that he asked me if he could write a review and send it to me, I said sure and here it is. Thank you Andrew Coulthard, glad you like the show:

"Hasse Fröberg and Musical Companion – performance in Uppsala 24 April 2016

It’s always a pleasure to discover new bands, especially when they’re both original and comprised of genuinely talented musicians. So, when I was invited to Uppsala and the Regina Theatre to watch Hasse Fröberg & Musical Companion, it felt like it might be a good opportunity.
It was.

Hasse Fröberg & Musical Companion (HFMC for short) are Hasse Fröberg on vocals and guitar, Thomsson on bass, Ola Strandberg on drums, Kjell Haraldsson on keyboards and Anton Lindsjö on lead guitar. For many years Hasse has also been the lead singer for Swedish prog giants, The Flower Kings. HFMC is his own band, however, with a track record that includes three full studio albums and a European tour.

I arrived at the venue early, but the theatre was already filling up with expectant fans; an excited home crowd augmented by followers from as far afield as Germany and Japan. The band appeared to a rapturous welcome and, after the intro keyboard number Seconds, launched into Stop the Clock; a triumphant opening that perfectly show-cased their range and talents.

High energy guitar licks, rousing drum patterns, harmonic keyboards together with Hasse’s classic vocals combined to make a heavier rock sound. But that was just for starters. From there, the spellbound audience was treated to a seamless marriage of rock influences, balancing both the powerful and melodic to achieve an intoxicating effect. HFMC are masters of a fusion of genres and styles, including psychedelic, heavy rock, funk and jazz. There were hints of Rush, the original Marillion, Lizzy, Sabbath, Yes, Queen and a host of other classics. Yet the band at all times delivers music that is both original and unique.

Throughout the packed two-hour set they continued to demonstrate their versatility. Ballads led on from complex rock numbers or virtuoso instrumentals, including Hasse’s own superb guitar work. The sum effect establishes HFMC as masters of not only rhythm and melody but also mood.
At no point did the performance drag, with HFMC delivering energy and verve all the way to the closing notes. Stand out numbers included Chasing a Dream, Something Worth Dying For and Fallen Empire, along with the encore pieces Venice California and Stardust Are We.

In summary: a great evening that left this reviewer wanting much more."

Being in a band or as in this case being a bandleader is all about taking chances. When we started to discuss this project, many people told me not to do it. There's no market for Live DVD:s anymore, they're too expensive to produce, the work is very time consuming etc. My answer to all this is...why not record a Live DVD, it sounds like a brilliant idea!

In my opinion we have no choice but to do it. First of all, I think HFMC has become a pretty good live band lately (if I may say so). With a catalogue of three albums and the amount of shows we've done so far on our latest record, the timing couldn't be better to make a document, a statement if you will. The reason I chose Reginateatern is simply that it suits this event a whole lot better than for instance Katalin (which is also in Uppsala), where we played lots of times (and love to play). In case you haven't found out yet, let me inform you the gig is on a sunday. The fact is that it was no dates available throughout the whole spring except for this one. Jonas Curling and "Welcome Uppsala" was kind enough to give me this very day, sunday the 24th of April. The show starts at 6 o clock pm, which is early but good since you'll be home for work on monday morning at a reasonable time.

Even if we'll try to treat this as a normal gig, it's not. The logistics will be a nightmare with extralights and yeah...extra everything, especiallly when it comes to the audio recording. Still we're there to play music for you and that we will. I'm sure we can keep the intensity, dynamics and power even though the cameras. I guess what I'm trying to say is, do yourself the favour and experience HFMC live on this very special event and let's show the world what the "Uppsala crowd" is like. In other words, just behave normal and everything will turn out allright. And to you who think music and a drink or a beer or two is the perfect match - the bar will be open! Please note the doors will open at 5 o clock pm and showtime is at 6 o clock pm. Can it get any better? I mean you'll be home in good time before "Beck starts" and to you who like to party. Here you have the perfect opportunity to get both drunk and to get the hangover taken care of before you go to bed - A win win situation for all involved.

You can find ticketlinks etc in the "No Place Like Home" fb event which you by the way can spread as much as you like. Love to you all!

Reginateatern(会場)を選んだ理由は、シンプルに、今回のイベントには、何度もプレイをしてきたKatalin(これもUppsalaにあって、演奏するのは好きな場所だ)よりずっとふさわしいからだよ。
